Episode 1 Landfall Korea

Well I've been in Korea for a month and a half now and finally got into a groove where I have a few minutes to play around with my blog. So far its been a pretty interesting ride. The flight was hell. As with all things the seats were designed for anyone at least one size smaller than me. I pretty much spent 16 hours shifting in my chair and standing up in the back of the plane while everyone else slept. After I finally arrived at the airport I was greeted with a "I have no common sense" assembly line processing of military members. I was actually surprised there were probably a good 40 of us there. Regardless the line was pointless and if I didn't say anything I think I could have walked out of the airport and onto Korean soil without any sort of legal documents. Apparently keeping people out isn't a big deal here. After I got on base I by a chance of luck ran into another sheet metal dude with whom I tagged along with. (He had a sponsor and I didn't. Apparently I ninjaed my way to Osan AB because no one had a clue I was coming.) Anyways the first two question I had were "where is a place to sleep and eat?" and "how do I get to work?" They were completely overlooked and within my first 3 hours in Korea I find myself in a Songtan bar wanting to go to bed. After a beer I begged the dudes to take me to my hotel which they reluctantly did. I had to stay off base because the base hotel was booked for my first night here. Here are some pictures of my modest room (and its huge lcd tv) and the view from it. Oh yea and an escape rope. I guess its how I was supposed to escape if there was a fire.....
